Which milk should I use to make caramel macchiato?

It is better to use whole-fat milk because fatty milk froths better. However, it is also important to use fresh milk. If the expiration date is close, it may not froth well.

Can I use regular coffee to make caramel macchiato instead of espresso?

Caramel macchiato is an espresso drink. So, the best way to make caramel macchiato is using espresso. However, if you do not have any chance to make espresso at home, then you can try it with other strong coffees, like pour-over coffee. Please use ½ cup of coffee to replace the espresso to make caramel macchiato with regular coffee.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup (skip this if your caramel sauce already has vanilla flavor)

Directions

  1. Make the espresso using an automatic espresso machine, Moka pot, or AeroPress.

  2. Heat the milk to scalding and froth it using a milk frother, French press, or whisker.

  4. Pour in the milk and stir them.

  5. Spoon the remaining milk foam on top of the caramel, vanilla, and milk mixture.

  6. Pour the espresso over the mixture leaving a coffee stain on the milk foam, the sign of macchiato.

  7. Drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of caramel sauce on top.

  8. Your caramel macchiato is ready.

  9. Serve it and enjoy!
