Ingredients

  • 4 cups whole milk

  • 1 tablespoon full fat Greek yogurt

Directions

  1. Open the top cover of the bread machine, lift the handle of the bread pan vertically, and remove the pan from the machine pulling upward. Place the bread pan on your work surface. Make sure the pan is clean and both kneading paddles are in place.

  2. Add the ingredients to the bread pan and stir it to mix the yogurt into the milk well.

  3. Put the bread pan back in the bread machine pressing it down so that it clicks into place. Close the lid of the bread machine.

  4. Plug the bread machine into an outlet and press the power button to turn the machine on.

  5. Use the menu button to select program #10 which is for the yogurt cycle.

  6. Press the start button to begin the yogurt cycle.

  7. Once the yogurt is done, the countdown timer on the front of the machine will read 0:00 and the machine will beep, indicating that your yogurt is done. Open the lid and take the bread pan out the machine. You may need a pot holder at this point.

  8. Cover and place the yogurt in the fridge for cooling. Enjoy once chilled!

    Please be aware that you should not use the delay function for yogurt cycle since the milk can spoil if it stays in the room temperature long.

    How to make yogurt in your kitchen oven:

    You can also make yogurt in your kitchen oven but you need to heat the milk up to 105-113 degrees Fahrenheit (41-45 degrees Celsius) beforehand. Then add 1 tablespoon of full fat Greek yogurt to the warm milk and stir it. Place the mixture in your kitchen oven, close the door and do not open it for at least five hours. After five hours, check if it is fermented or not. If it is fermented, put it in the fridge for cooling, but if it is not, then wait for another 3 hours. Yogurt fermentation process is affected by the environmental conditions a lot so you will find the correct temperature and duration for your circumstances as you gain experience.
