Chocolate swirl bread is sweet bread. It is not called cake because it is not as sweet as a cake. But if you like moderate sweetness in your cakes, then this is the recipe you are looking for.

Making chocolate swirl bread takes work. However, the bread machine recipe below will make it easier for you to take over some jobs from you, especially the kneading. And when your bread machine is busy with kneading and rising dough, you will have time to prepare the chocolate sauce, thus saving time.

This chocolate swirl bread has a tender crumb thanks to egg and milk content. It goes perfectly well during breakfast alongside a cup of milk or tea. It is also a perfect treat once you have tea or coffee in the afternoon.

Tips for your bread maker:

Ingredients

  • For dough:
  • 1 cup warm milk

  • 2¼ teaspoons instant dry yeast

  • 4 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • ¼ cup honey

  • 1 egg

  • 2 egg yolks

  • ½ cup butter, softened

  • For chocolate filling:
  • 1½ cups chocolate chips

  • ½ cup butter

  • 1/3 cup sugar

  • ¼ cup cocoa powder

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Directions

  1. Open the lid of the bread machine and remove the bread pan by pulling it upward.

  2. Make sure the bread pan is clean, and both kneading paddles are in place.

  3. Add all the ingredients to make the dough to the bread pan.

  4. Put the bread pan back in the bread machine, press it down so that it clicks into its place, and close the lid.

  5. Plug the bread machine into an outlet and press the “Power” button to turn the machine on.

  6. Use the “Program” button to select program #6 for the dough cycle, and press the "Start" button to start the cycle.

  7. Your machine will let you know by making a beep sound once the dough is ready.

  8. Make the chocolate filling while the bread machine prepares the dough, preferably during the rising phase.

  9. To do so, melt the butter and chocolate chips together on very low heat, and stir them.

  10. Take the butter and chocolate chips mixture from the stove, add the remaining ingredients, and mix them very well.

  11. Once the dough is ready, place it on a floured flat surface, and roll it out with a rolling pin into a large rectangle, about 1 inch thick. Adjust the edges of the rectangle to fit the bread pan after you roll the dough.

  12. Spread the chocolate filling over it, covering the dough completely.

  13. Roll the dough into a cylinder shape. It should look like a jelly roll.

  14. Remove the kneading paddles from the bread pan, and put the dough into the bread pan.

  15. Put the bread pan back in the bread machine, press it down so that it clicks into its place, and close the lid.

  16. Press the “Power” button to turn the machine on, and select program #11 for the bake cycle using the “Program” button.

  17. Use the arrows on the screen to set the timer to 1 hour, and press the "Start" button to start baking.

  18. Your machine will let you know by making a beep sound once the chocolate swirl bread is done. Open the bread machine at this point and remove the bread pan using a pot holder.

  19. Flip the pan over and gently tap it on the counter to remove the chocolate swirl bread.

  20. Let it cool down a little bit, and then slice it.

  21. Enjoy your chocolate swirl bread!
