Can I make blueberry jam without pectin?

Yes. Pectin does not have a conservative role in jam so you do not have to use it. It only helps the jam thicken faster. So, if you do not want to use pectin, then you should cook jam longer or use other thickeners such as cornstarch, agar, gelatin etc.

Are blueberries high in pectin?

Like all other berries, blueberries are not high in pectin and need some thickeners or to be cooked for a longer time to set.

Why should I use starch in jam?

You do not have to use starch while making jam. It is added just to make the jam thicken faster. So, if you let the jam cook for more time or add more sugar, then you do not need to add starch. It will naturally set as the fruit loses its water by boiling.
