What is the difference between spring onion and scallion?

Spring onion, green onion, and scallion are all used to name fresh onions with green tube-like leaves. Green onions and scallions are exactly the same thing but spring onions are a little older than them and have a small bulb.

Can I make dumpling wrappers at home?

It is not difficult to make dumpling wrappers at home as long as you can roll them out into a thin disc. To make dumpling wrappers at home, you should gather 2 cups of flour, ½ cup of water in a bowl, knead them very well, and leave the dough to rest for 60 minutes. After 60 minutes, roll one part of dough into a thick rope shape and cut small pieces from it. Then, make small discs with your palm and flatten each small disc into a thin disc by rolling out with a rolling pin. Your homemade dumpling wrappers will be ready within minutes. Please keep in mind that you should cover the part of dough you are not working on to prevent it from drying out.

Money bag recipes are a great way to make the most of leftover meats, whether it is turkey, chicken, beef, even fish. In this recipe we will make use of leftover turkeys enriching them with cheddar cheese, corn kernels, green onion, and ginger.

Money bags are usually deep-fried or baked. When they are deep-fried, they are flaky, crunchy, and taste delicious, but they easily dry out in the oven so it is risky to make them in the oven. In this recipe we will make them in the air fryer as an healthy alternative to deep frying conveying the similar texture and taste.

Let’s move on to the recipe below and make a delicious use of our leftover turkeys!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup leftover turkey, shredded

  • 1/3 cup grated cheddar cheese

  • ¼ cup sweet corn kernels

  • 3 green onion bulbs, finely chopped

  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, grated

  • 8 spring onion leaves, cut in halves for tying

  • 16 dumpling wrappers

  • Olive oil spray

Directions

  1. Preheat the air fryer by setting the temperature to 400°F and the timer to 3 minutes. Once you press the “Start/Pause” button, it will start warming up.

  2. Add turkey, cheddar cheese, corn kernels, green onions, and ginger into a bowl and mix them.

  3. Lay out dumpling wrappers on a clean flat surface, and add 1 teaspoon of the mixture to the center of each dumpling wrapper.

  4. Gather up the edges of dumpling wrappers to the top of the filling to form a pouch or money bag shape, and tie the neck using a spring onion string.

  5. Place the turkey money bags into the rotating basket of your air fryer, mist with olive oil spray. You can also put them into the regular air fryer basket if your air fryer does not have a rotating basket. In this case, you should shake the basket halfway through cooking to ensure even cooking.

  6. Open the air fryer, put the turkey money bags inside, and close the air fryer.

  7. Adjust the timer for 8 minutes, and press the “Start/Pause” button to begin frying.

  8. Cook the turkey money bags until they are golden brown and crispy.

  9. Once cooked, open the air fryer and transfer the turkey money bags into a serving platter.

  10. Serve them warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

  11. Enjoy the turkey money bags!

  • RECIPE NOTES FOR TURKEY MONEY BAGS:

You can also make this recipe using leftover chicken. It yields a very similar taste and texture.

You can also use filo pastry instead of dumpling wrappers in this recipe. To do so you should put 3 sheets of filo pastry on each other adding oil between them. Then, you should cut the 3-layer sheets into squares to put the filling inside.

HOW TO SERVE TURKEY MONEY BAGS:

You can serve turkey money bags along with green salad or bean salad. Freshly squeezed orange juice also matches turkey money bags deliciously. If you would like to make a side dish, vegetable side dishes would be better to serve with turkey money bags instead of high-carb side dishes since they already have dough.
