French Toast Bake with Apples Air Fryer Recipe

French toast casserole is a perfect choice to make for weekend mornings, for family or friend gatherings, or for brunches. The French toast bake recipe below has apples and pecans in it. It is healthy, rich in nutrients, and tastes delicious.
French toast bake is mostly made for breakfast but it is also a perfect accompaniment to tea and coffee. So, you can also think about making it when you invite your friends to drink tea or coffee in the afternoon.

3 tablespoons unsalted butter + some extra for greasing
3 large apples, peeled and diced
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1½ teaspoons cinnamon powder
1 (16 ounces) loaf brioche bread, cut into cubes
1 (8 ounces) package cream cheese, cut into cubes
12 large eggs
2 cups milk
1/3 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup chopped pecans
1 tablespoon confectioner’s sugar
Preheat the air fryer by setting the temperature to 300°F and the timer to 3 minutes. Once you press the “Start/Pause” button, it will start warming up.
Add butter, apples, brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder into a 6-inch round baking dish and mix them.
Place the baking dish in the air fryer, set the timer to 5 minutes and press the “Start/Pause” button to start baking.
Cook it until the apples are tender.
Remove the baking dish from the air fryer and set it aside for apple pieces to cool down.
Turn off the air fryer.
Lightly grease an 8-inch round baking dish with butter.
Put half of the bread cubes in the baking dish in a single layer, spread cream cheese all over them.
Spread half of the apple mixture on top of the bread cubes, cover the apple mixture with the remaining bread cubes, and finish the topping by spreading the rest of the apple mixture.
Crack eggs into a bowl, add milk, maple syrup, vanilla, salt, and the remaining cinnamon powder in it, and whisk them until smooth.
Pour the mixture evenly over the bread and apple layers.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
After 4 hours, remove the baking dish from the refrigerator, and let it stay at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Preheat the air fryer by setting the temperature to 350°F and the timer to 3 minutes. Once you press the “Start/Pause” button, it will start warming up.
Remove the aluminum foil from the baking dish, and sprinkle pecans.
Place the baking dish into the air fryer, set the timer to 10 minutes and press the “Start/Pause” button to begin baking.
Bake the French toast casserole until golden brown.
Take out the baking dish and let it cool down slightly for 2 to 3 minutes.
Sprinkle some powdered sugar and serve it immediately.

RECIPE NOTE FOR FRENCH TOAST BAKE:
Please be aware that the French toast casserole recipe above is an easy recipe but needs some chilling time in the refrigerator for bread to soak the mixture in so it takes time. However, if you do not have time and you are using a fluffier bread such as brioche bread, French bread etc., you can simply skip this step.
You can make French toast bake using brioche as in this recipe. But if you do not have brioche at hand you can also use sourdough bread, French bread, and challah. You can reach bread maker recipes for these loaves clicking on their names in the previous sentence.
HOW TO SERVE FRENCH TOAST BAKE:
You can serve French toast bake topped with powdered sugar only, as in this recipe, or with some fruits on it. All kinds of berries especially will match perfectly well with French toast bake.
